Pre-Primary

The five-day Pre-Primary program incorporates the Western Australian curriculum from the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) as well as the Early Year Learning Framework (EYLF), as the foundations of literacy and numeracy are commenced.

The teaching pedagogy of ‘growth mindset’ and the beginnings of self-evaluation are introduced.

Classes operate from 8:20am – 3:00pm, and parents are encouraged to come and spend time playing puzzles, reading books, or playing with their child. The bell will ring at 8:45am and the children will sit on the mat for the start of class time.

Pre-Primary is five full days a week, and follows a transition timetable in the first two weeks, to ease young students into school.

The uniform requirements for Pre-Primary are as follows;

  • School sport shirt
  • Black taslon school shorts
  • White short or ankle socks
  • Non-marking Velcro sneakers/joggers (no skate or tennis shoes)
  • College hat
  • School tracksuit pants
  • School tracksuit jumper

Wellington Boots are needed for Bushland Play in terms two and three.

We love to make our students feel special in celebrating their birthdays, you are most welcome to send a treat to share on your child’s birthday.

Parents are invaluable to the Early Learning program, and we ask you to volunteer throughout the year as a Parent Helper. This includes helping with children’s activities, cutting fruit, packing up, and joining in the fun. Children enjoy having family members visit them. It is an important part of the transition from home to school, and gives you a chance to participate in their learning.

Parents are also welcomed to contribute certain recycling and unwanted items to the Useful Box, such as shoeboxes, wool and string, and dress-up clothes.  

The Early years employ a thematic approach in covering all curriculum areas. Students will cover English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities, the Arts, Technology & Enterprise, Health & Physical Education and Christian Education as well as the Early Years Learning Framework.

Students learn through an integrated program that uses play, discovery, and hands-on experience, which makes learning more meaningful to young children. The children participate in whole-class and small-group activities. All children have a library time and are encouraged to borrow library books.

The children attend Specialist Subjects classes such as, Music, Outdoor Education, Chinese, and Physical Education with different teachers.

Bushland Play makes up a large part of our Outdoor Education program. It sees children explore, build, and climb in a safe environment. The students get dirty, challenge themselves and learn a lot about self-management, decision making, and risks through natural play.

Parents will receive a Portfolio (to be returned to the class) and a Semester One Report at the end of Term 2, and a complete Portfolio and Semester 2 Report at the end of Term 4.
