We value students’ progress as well as attainment, with the aim of ensuring that every student makes at least a year’s progress for a year’s learning. Each of our students is profiled using standardised tests as well as anecdotal information, and their growth is tracked.
Assessment at Southern Hills Christian College is ongoing throughout the year and feeds into the grades listed on the report card. In the lower years assessment is largely based on observation as well as mandated testing. From Year 7, the assessments are content driven and exams are formally officiated and invigilated in the school gymnasium.
We use Blooms taxonomy to encourage higher order thinking skills, and Brightpath is used for our assessments. Teachers, parents and students alike appreciate the consistency and transparency of these approaches.
