Southern Hills Cadets Carry Out Community Service

Found in: School News

Yesterday marked our first community service for 2020. Due to the unprecedented summer of fires across Australia, Southern Hills Christian College Emergency Services Cadets decided it would be great to focus on fire load reduction.

We had 95 cadets and 9 leaders who worked really hard around a couple of buildings on site. The cadets reduced the fire load by raking garden beds and moving dead leaf litter to a burn pile on the property. Most of the work was done in clusters of 5 – 8 cadets and we all shared the duties of raking, picking up leaves and wheel barrowing to the burn pile.

It is great to see that young people can have fun and be engaged in serving the community with hard labor and getting their hands dirty.

Thank you to all the leaders and cadets for their hard work yesterday. We are looking forward to the rest of the term and the exciting activities which are lying ahead.
