Forty-nine students and staff from various SCEA schools flew out on Friday evening for the Philippines. Fifteen of the group are students from Southern Hills Christian College.
After three long and tiring flights the group landed in La Carlotta where they managed to rest before heading out for fellowship and lunch with one of the local pastors. The delicious fresh coconut water and smoky pork meat was a new taste sensation for some.
The group then joined with Ellenbrook and Swan students to unpack the sea container which was sent from Southern Hills back at the beginning of August. Items will be delivered to the La Carlotta school for children with disabilities. Students then visited a local the market which was quite different from anything they had experienced previously.
The ten-day Leavers2Leaders trip is a valuable learning experience in many ways. The educational benefits are the foundation of the trip experience, but its value is also in the relationships that students build and the sense of community they develop.
