What does this mean? Crazy words!
Gong Xi Fa Cai are the chinese words for “Happy Chinese New Year”. On Friday we will be celebrating this at Southern Hills Christian College thanks to our excellent Chinese teacher Mikael Sandlund.
Southern Hills will celebrate the arrival of Chinese New Year this Friday (16 February) with a curriculum day. This will be a whole day filled with activities in the primary school and ELC, encouraging students in their learning of the Chinese language and culture and supporting the language program at the College.
Many of the activities will be held in the gym and SCEA Marketing will be at the College on Friday documenting the event.
Chinese New Year – also known as Spring Festival – follows the lunar calendar and the date therefore changes from year to year.
This year, Chinese communities around the world will celebrate the arrival of the “Year of the Dog” on Friday 16 February.
Students may therefore bring a small soft toy dog with them on Friday. Students are also free to wear the colour red as this symbolizes happiness in Chinese culture. In keeping with the theme of the Chinese New Year, our celebration at Southern Hills will encourage students to care for and bless others.
Please join us in celebrating Chinese New Year 2018 at Southern Hills Christian College!
Some Primary students are already thinking Chinese and having fun in the lead up to this event!
