It's Friday and looking back over the week it is encouraging and exciting to see student enthusiasm for Book Week 2020. The highlight, as always, was the Book Week Character parade for which staff and students dress up as their favourite book character. The theme this year was "Creative Creatures and Wild Minds" and we certainly saw some creative and wild costumes on parade.
We started the week with a three-day Book Fair, giving students and parents an opportunity to browse and purchase books from a broad selection provided by Scholastic Books. On Thursday, author, editor, speaker and mother of two teens, Deb Fitzpatrick gave two separate author talks for primary and secondary students. Deb has published four young adult books and one for junior school. She engaged and challenged the students, providing encouragement to start writing.
The week ended with "Reading Dads", a Fathering Project initiative that provided an opportunity for our Dads to enjoy a BBQ breakfast before reading to their children in class.
Thanks to everyone involved in making this a fun and exciting celebration of reading and the power of books. The week aims to foster a love of reading and literature in the young.... and perhaps the not so young.
