Important Information for Primary and Lower Secondary Parents

Southern Hills Christian College has adapted quickly to the changing face of senior secondary subjects as required by the Curriculum Authority in Western Australia.

“There have been significant changes to the structure and implementation of senior secondary courses for students.  It is important for parents to understand the pathways and courses available to students,” said Mrs Louwen, deputy principal.

The college has added a number of courses and structures to cater for students in the college moving from year ten to year eleven.  These changes have broadened subject choice for students and pathways to university, post-secondary training or the workplace.

In 2016 students are able to enrol in high academic subjects including Literature, Ancient History and Geography.  A range of vocational subjects have been added to cater for girls and boys wishing to follow a trade path in the future.  These include pre-apprenticeship and vocational subjects.

The college has also provided an opportunity for students to follow a nursing pathway for university entrance.

There are a number of acronyms and terms used in senior-secondary courses that can be confusing.  Parents in primary and secondary and encouraged to read through the attached course guide for senior-secondary to familiarise themselves with the terms and structures.  In particular the information on pages 13 and 18-20 are valuable reading.
