2015 Book Week

Found in: News

Southern Hills Christian College we will be celebrating Book Week with a Book Week Character Parade for kindergarten to year six students on Wednesday 26 August 2015.

Each year, many schools and public libraries from all over Australia spend a week celebrating books and Australian authors and illustrators. The theme for Book Week 2015 is ‘Books Light Up Our World’.  Book Week this year is from Monday 24 August to Friday 28 August 2015.

For our Book Week Character Parade, all students are encouraged to dress up as a favourite book character.  Parents are invited to attend the parade:

Where:  Southern Hills Christian College

When:    Wednesday 26 August 2015

Time:      10:00am

Wear:     Book character costume

If any students choose not to dress as a book character, they can wear their normal school uniform.  Costume should not be too elaborate.  We would encourage parents to use dress-up clothes from home for the event.

Students need to be familiar with the character of their choice, and the storyline of the book from which the character has been chosen.  Children are also encouraged to bring their book along to school with them if possible.

As a Christian community, we are asking parents to assist us in selecting appropriate characters that would complement our values and beliefs.  We would ask that characters such as witches or vampires be avoided, as these may offend people within our school family.  If you are unsure and would like to clarify this further, please speak to your child’s teacher.

If it is practical for your child to stay in their dress-up costume for the day, they may do so.  If it is necessary for them to change after the dress-up parade, please ensure they bring the appropriate full uniform required for the day.

Please feel free to contact the school office should you have any questions or need further clarification about the character parade.
