Despite the cold weather on Friday night, the College community came out in force to enjoy the first big event of the year. More than 100 movie-goers came with rugs and blankets for the outdoor screening of Disney’s ‘Aladdin’ on the outdoor grass area in front of B Block, with all fundraising proceeds going to the Year 10 Kurrawang Trip.
The Year 10’s left on the eastbound train in the early hours of Monday morning with more than $400 raised from the Movie Night. The funds will be used to help the community of Kurrawang. Southern Hills Christian College has been visiting this community and assisting with construction and in the classroom since 2012 and every year we receive a warm welcome from the smiling faces of the children.
A big thank you to Mr Wayne Chapman for organizing the large event and also the staff who cooked and sold food for the hungry masses. College Principal Paul Beacham was rapt with the turnout:
“It’s what we‘re all about. It’s great to see people supporting the College and giving generously to the Kurrawang trip.”
We also would like to extend a big thankyou to Adrian Ward from ‘Stage and Sound’ for setting up a booming sound system and bright data projector. It reminded us of the drive-in theatres of yesteryear!
Community is so important in our College – and we are thankful to all of you who came out to support this family-friendly fundraising event. See you at the Quiz Night on August 19!
